Welcome to the first installment of our five-part Spring 2013 Outdoor Furnishings Trends blog series. Each week we will post about the latest colors, accessories, and decor including what’s hot now and simple ways to update your existing outdoor furnishings. First up, the color red.
Red comes in very diverse shades that all contrast well with the green and neutral colors of the outdoors. Reds can make a great focal point for your outdoor space as a burst of color in one or two areas, or it can serve as the main color scheme for your entire backyard. Either way, you can’t go wrong with reds outside if you keep these simple tips in mind:
Go vibrant or go home. Whether you choose a pretty pink, delightful coral, or deep oxblood red, don’t be shy about it. Vibrant reds will liven up your backyard space and work with many other colors you may already have outside. Just leave the pastels for somewhere else.
Accessorize. Red too bold for you to commit to on your outdoor furniture cushions? No problem. Try some bright pink throw pillows on your beige sofa, or a cluster of deep red ceramic pots in the corner of your patio. Even a bold red umbrella can make all the difference in an otherwise simple outdoor space.
Make use of patterns. Solid red fabrics are lovely and suit most backyard spaces well. However, this season’s fabric offerings are full of bright, beautiful patterns with reds playing either the main role or a very valuable supporting role. So when choosing your vibrant red this season, consider making it a pattern to get the most from this trend.
Using red shades in your outdoor space is a great way to liven up the backyard and make it feel more like an extension of your home. Come by Seasonal Living and let our experienced staff help you choose the perfect red addition to your outdoor space. Don’t forget to tell us in the comments how you plan to use red in your backyard.
